Get Down to Business with Junior Achievement

Syracuse, NY – May 18, 2008 - How would you like to be the president of your own company?

Walk into your office and start popping out ideas, sending them zinging into the air like Tiger Woods crackling on the driving range.

Summon the mentors; gather the vice presidents; roll up the sleeves; and pound out the marketing strategies. Perfect the product, and then watch it sell.

Four years ago, that was my dream. Now it has come true for me. It can for you, too. I present your pathway to success: Junior Achievement of Central New York!

JA provides dazzling mentors, actual businesspeople such as the amazing Joe Hipius and the brilliant Marguerite Towne, who both work for National Grid. They and JA President Kathleen Harter guided me through JA.

With profound gratitude, I report that the great people of JA not only made my companies successful in my four years, they also guided me to the four-year, full-tuition Syracuse University Junior Achievement Scholarship, which SU and JA offer to one graduating senior each year. I will begin my college career in SU's Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies this fall.

This past year, my vice presidents honored me with their service and suggestions. We donated half of our profits to Gabriel Bol Deng's HOPE for Ariang, Inc. (www.HopeForAriang.org ).

Gabriel is one of the Lost Boys of Sudan. He defied flying bullets and river alligators to escape the conflict in his homeland. He made it to America and graduated from Le Moyne College. Our donation will help him build a primary school in his hometown of Ariang, South Sudan.

Through JA last year, I served an apprenticeship at Lockheed Martin and met great people. This summer, I will be lucky enough to serve an apprenticeship at Green & Seifter CPAs.

Thanks to Junior Achievement, instead of just reading about business in books, I have made presentations, devised strategies and sold products.

Because of JA, I already know what it means to hold a job.
